Some things could only really happen in San Francisco... and the Maker Faire is one of them. It just really struck me that this is the kind of place where, while it errs on the side of avoiding any negativity, is also very open and welcoming to new ideas. Perhaps it's a combination of DIY, the hippies, and a whole lot of irreverence...

many years ago after i explored the munich science museum's bridge exhibition, I had this weird idea of becoming a civil engineer one day. most engineers dream of becoming artists when they are done being engineers. I'd like to study engineering when i am 70 after i'm done writing several books or raising kittens. Then I could join ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS
