maker faire 2008
Some things could only really happen in San Francisco... and the Maker Faire is one of them. It just really struck me that this is the kind of place where, while it errs on the side of avoiding any negativity, is also very open and welcoming to new ideas. Perhaps it's a combination of DIY, the hippies, and a whole lot of irreverence...
There's a whole society of people who create bleeping, moving r2d2 robots. i loved watching children's reactions.
It's so cool when techies love to share their knowledge and make things accessible...
i should have bought this ueberstix sailboat kit. I honestly still don't understand how all that sailing wind stuff works. plus ueberstix are cute!
this guy created a theremin in an altoids box!
the blubberbot, a remote-controlled blimp!
many years ago after i explored the munich science museum's bridge exhibition, I had this weird idea of becoming a civil engineer one day. most engineers dream of becoming artists when they are done being engineers. I'd like to study engineering when i am 70 after i'm done writing several books or raising kittens. Then I could join ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS

I like the theremint.
Maker Faire looks cool.
As you say, only in SFO.
Interesting about engineers/artists; I see what you mean.
